As we all know cities are expanding in tremendous way as well as traffic problems in the cities. All the people living in the cities must have face traffic jams at regular basis. traffic is one of the biggest hurdles in the economic progress of the country as it waste lots of time and money. According to recent survey by TOMTOM, Mumbai(our financial capital) is ranked at second spot in number of traffic jams. vehicles also create a problem of more pollution and accidents in traffic jams. Now, it is a time to take a step to pull out unnecessary cars from roads and make the air breathable to all the people in the cities. It can only be achieved when people give up their private cars and use public transport and bicycles at huge scale. Many such decisions were taken in past ,but none of them work so well as people are reluctant to use bicycles.
To overcome this problem, I have an idea that is called Road tax(drive less pay more).
Road tax is a tax that is applicable to all the vehicles that enter on government controlled roads. the tax is calculated by following details like total distance covered in one ride, person of what age its drive , type of vehicle and where is he/she go. the tax will be more if distance is less , so it encourage people to use public transport. for example, A person of 26 years drive less than 10 kilometers to go to shopping will be taxed as ₹700 but if he will go to the hospital then he will be charged just ₹300. If a person of old age go to the shopping mall he will be charged ₹100 as he cannot use bicycle in old age. It also depend on type of vehicle. For example, cargo vehicles will not be charged. A luxury car will charged more the suv and simple cars. All data will be recorded based on GPS software to know which type of places he/she visits.
This will not proses any threat to privacy as no other user and computer can see which places user visit in particular period. This is a only way to make our cities more peaceful and environment friendly.
